Our comprehensive literacy plan at Lincoln includes the best strategies and practices from the research-based Success for All and Houghton Mifflin reading programs. Kindergarten teachers use Success for All's KinderCorner program to create a solid foundation for their students' early reading experiences: whereas, Reading Roots provides a strong base for our beginning readers (first-grade level) with systematic phonics instruction supported by decodable stories, as well as instruction in fluency and comprehension. Individualized tutoring is provided to students when needed using Alphie's Alley, an engaging computer software program, along with teacher guidance and support. At the beginning of the year and at the end of each quarter, students in grade 1-5 are tested and grouped according to their instructional reading level, so that they may move to advanced levels as quickly as possible. Besides testing and grouping, Mrs. Reynoldson provides classroom teachers with reading instruction support, materials, and assessment data that is used to make decisions about student progress. She is located in Room 14 at Lincoln School. Please feel free to stop by and share your thoughts!
