“Learning Links to Literature” Integrated library classes are planned and presented in collaboration with classroom teachers. Library classes integrate learning in the classroom with library skills of locating and using information. Students are involved in activities related to all areas of the curriculum. Lessons are planned in conjunction with Lincoln’s Building Plan Goals of improved student achievement in reading, mathematics, and writing. Flexible scheduling enables classroom teachers and students access to the library resources as often as they deem necessary. Open access provides opportunities for browsing, checking out, working on technology projects, doing research, and completing classroom assignments. District/Library Program Outcomes: · Exhibit respect and responsibility for information sources and show consideration for other information users. · Identify and select materials from a variety of resources for personal enjoyment and life-long learning. · Select and apply appropriate process, strategies, resources, and technologies to access and use information. · Demonstrate effective communication of information through print and nonprint formats. Student Check Out: · Automation has arrived! We will be using electronic check-out this year! · Daily access · Kindergarten students may check out one book, due in one week. · Grades 1-5 students may check out one or two books, due in one week. · Grades 2-5 students may check out one magazine, due in two days. · K-5 students may check out one Parent Center video on Friday, due the following Monday. · Books and magazines may be renewed. · Students are responsible for the care, damage, or loss of library materials that they check out. The Accelerated Reading program offers leveled, self-selected reading choices. The Kansas William Allen White reading list is for grades 3-5. Students must have read or heard two titles in order to vote on their favorite in the spring. Kansas students in grades 3-8 select winning authors who receive awards in the fall. Other Library Uses: · Individual and small group study · Collaborative planning · Inservice and ESP meetings · SITE Council and PTA meetings · K-State Student Teachers meetings · Special student presentations · Parent/Student activities Visitors are always welcome!
